Cervical Disc Herniation

Cervical and Lumbar disc herniation is more commonly seen in daily neurosurgical practice as a result of life style changing trends since the last decade.

Fortunately; most of these patients benefit from non-surgical/conservative treatment options which include; effective pain medication, bed rest, collar use, physiotherapy and epidural steriod injections. The gold standard treatment for progressive neurological decline is definetely surgery.

In our clinic; I accept the anterior cervical discectomy and fusion as a standard therapy as performed regulary worldwide, but if the disc herniation is not sequestrated or radiologically classified as hard-disc then we prefer to perform laser microdiscectomy or RF discoplasty. In the same manner, as a result of the radiological finding and clinical picture; the patients benefit in a satisfactory radio from epidural steroid injections.
